Sept. 1998 - present.  Accountant & CFO, Protalex, Inc. Administer all aspects of accounting for pharmaceutical startup company developing bio-modulation treatment for autoimmune diseases. Payroll, accounts payable & receivable, tax payments, 10Q’s & 10K’s for SEC reporting compliance. Develop policies and procedures and benefits program. Work with board members, corporate officers on strategic plans & business plans. Appointed Chief Financial Officer November, 2001.

 

 

Oct. 1992 - present.  Accountant, University New Mexico.  Assure conformance to state & federal regulations.  Organize office and accounting procedures for HSC $6 million Neurology budget.  Delegate work and provide motivation for an accounting assistant and student employees.  Lead diverse teams on special assignments. Look ahead and design office systems to obviate problems and maximize staffing synergies.  Design and maintain spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel.  Computerize office procedures.   Communicate spending policies and control use of HSC funds.  Prepare for audits.  Do budget revisions and assist in budget preparation.  Financial projections and analysis for cost centers. Program spreadsheets with automatic accounting controls, error checking, graphics, and report generation.  Anticipate management information needs and design systems to capture data and automatically generate reports.  Monthly and ad hoc reports.  Develop and implement billing and accounts receivable systems for Health Sciences internal cost centers.  Train others on computer usage. Assist and make recommendations for hardware & software purchases. 

Oct. 1990 - Oct. 1992, Medical Receivables Clerk, University Physicians Associates.  Communicate with insurance providers and UNMH Physicians.  Track medical receivables and enter payments from providers.

Oct., 1989 - July, 1990, English Teacher, Interac Ltd., Tokyo, Japan.  Designed curriculum and presented seminars on language and culture for Japanese businesspeople and engineers from Hitachi, Fuji Xerox, Nissan, and others.  Used earnings to finance building of resort home in Washington.  Studied Japanese.

Aug., 1987 - May, 1989, Pacific Rim Sales and Service Manager, Hanna International, Portland, Oregon.  Responsible for all aspects of Pacific Rim Division with $1 million yearly sales in several product lines to 20 countries.  Customers included Nissan, Toyota, Subaru, Mazda. Negotiated sales up to $400,000.  Sales forecasting, budgeting, cost control, coordinating production scheduling.   Supervise installation teams.  Liaison between company CEO and 12 field representatives serving 20 countries.

March, 1985 - January, 1986, Systems Analyst, Vivigen Corporation, Santa Fe, New Mexico, genetic laboratory.  Used project management software and various other analysis techniques on a one-year project to track work flow through the amniocentesis lab and reduce labor costs.  Reported directly to CEO and Doctorate level Geneticists. 

 

1987 - 1997;  Land Development.  Bought and developed a six acre resort property on a Wild & Scenic designated region of the Klickitat River in Washington's Columbia River Gorge.  Extensive business plans, proposal writing, and working with various local agencies and Federal Government.

 

Taught skiing and extreme windsurfing at Sailboards Hood River, in Oregon during 1986-87.

Twenty years experience on IBM PC and MacIntosh.  Software; Excel, Lotus, MS Word, Wordperfect, Powerpoint, Paradox, dBASE, Microsoft Access Database, Frontpage, Omnipage, Project Manager, Norton and other utilities.    Adaptable across hardware and software environments.  Other experience; microcomputer networks, on-line services, trouble-shooting PC's, peripherals. Scanning in data and graphics.  IBM and DEC mainframes.   Page Layout & Graphic arts; Pagemaker, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Quark.  Experience in selecting optimal hardware and software.

 

Since 1996 have served as a consultant for MYOB accounting software, have set up and maintained several businesses accounting systems for wholesale, retail, governmental. Certified Consultant for MYOB for 4 years.
