Nov., 1999 – Dec., 2003; Controller and C.F.O., Protalex, Inc., a Public company seeking FDA approval for a drug to treat autoimmune diseases. Develop business plan and position company for fundraising. From inception establish office infrastructure and delineate company business systems and procedures. Establish & manage relationship with certifying CPA firm and SEC Counsel. Write and generate financials for 10Q’s & 10K’s, & assure timely SEC filings. Manage daily affairs and assure progress on timelines in the FDA clinical trial process. Support Board and President in four private placements and two restructurings. Assemble 70 page policy and procedure manual for workplace law compliance and uniformity--in keeping with company's public status. Maintain bookkeeping and accounting system. Track research budget and manage burn rate. Track FDA process on Project Management Software. Manage payroll, purchasing, leases, contracts, and payables.

 Oct. 1990 – June, 2002.  Accountant, University New Mexico.  Track Dean’s Health Sciences Center research accounts totaling about $7 million.  Prepare for audits.  Assure conformance to State and Federal regulations.  Program spreadsheets in MS Visual Basic with automatic accounting controls, error checking, and report generation.  Developed system to monitor funds shared by twenty medical departments.  Anticipate management information needs and design systems to automatically capture data and generate reports.  Developed and maintain billing and accounts receivable systems for Health Sciences internal service centers. Train others and write instructions on computer usage.  Hire and supervise accounting assistants. Lead diverse teams on special assignments. Started HSC Accounting networking Group and directed meetings. Served on board for the campus-wide paperless purchasing system.  Moved to Neurology Dept. for four years, then half-time position at UNM Art Dept. as transitioned into full-time at Protalex. During 12 years at UNM, created many legacy systems that are still in use today.

Oct., 1989 - July, 1990, English Teacher, Interac Ltd., Tokyo, Japan.  Presented seminars on language and culture for Japanese businesspeople and engineers from Hitachi, Fuji Xerox, Nissan, and others.  Used earnings to finance building of resort home on Washington property.  Studied Japanese language and culture.

 Aug., 1987 - May, 1989, Pacific Rim Sales and Service Manager, Hanna International, Portland, Oregon.  Responsible for all aspects of most profitable Pacific Rim Division with $1 million yearly sales in several product lines to 20 countries.  Negotiated sales up to $400,000.  Sales forecasting, budgeting, cost control, international payments, coordinating production scheduling & installation teams, interpret blueprints.  Main liaison between company CEO and 12 field reps serving 20 countries.

 March, 1985 - January, 1986, Systems Analyst, Vivigen Corporation, Santa Fe, New Mexico, genetic laboratory later purchased by Genzyme.  Used project management software and various other analysis techniques on a one-year project to track work flow through the amniocentesis lab and reduce labor costs.  Reported directly to CEO Tom Reed and staff Ph.D. geneticists. 

 1987 - 1997;  Land Development.  Bought and developed a six acre sailboard resort property on a Wild & Scenic designated Klickitat River in Washington's Columbia River Gorge.  Extensive proposal writing, site plans, and working with various agencies and Federal Government to change zoning.  See http://www.dondean.com  ‘portfolio’ section.

 Special Skills:

Certified Consultant on MYOB and Quickbooks small business software. Since 1995 have set up and implemented accounting systems for service and wholesaling businesses. Includes designing chart of accounts, setup multi-state payroll, design paper flow and filing procedures. Have set up wholesaling business including part numbers, job costing, commissions, multi-tiered pricing etc. Trained semi-skilled employees in use of system.

 Over twenty years computer experience. Expert in Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Access, MS Project. Extensive experience with Macintosh and PC microcomputers, computer networks, trouble-shooting PC's, peripherals. Certificate from UNM in Graphic arts; software experience including Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Quark, InDesign. Have produced several complete web sites including e-commerce, on-line credit cards, and maintain 2 sites presently. Experienced in search engine optimization.

 Conversational in Spanish, basic Japanese. 

 Taught skiing and extreme windsurfing at Sailboards Hood River, in Oregon during 1986-87.
